Writing integrated -TPO 10
The reading passage and the lecture discuss two contradictory theories, the pollution theory vs. the predation theory, to explain why the population of the sea otter has declined in the Alaska coast.
First, the reading explains that one reason of the decline is existence of various sources of the pollution. While, the lecture opposes that reason in the reading by weakening the pollution theory, because nobody could not see any dead body of the sea otter washing up and this a consistent point that the decline is because of the predation rather than pollution. In addition, professor describes that the pollution cannot decline population immediately, but the predation can.
Second, according to the passage, the decline happened entirely on all animals of the sea. However, the lecture describes that people settled have changed their diet on the whales which are once their favorite food because of the large hunt and then, they replace the smaller sea animals instead which caused that their population would declined, too.
Third, the reading discusses that the uneven pattern as a reason of the decline posed by the pollution. On contrary, based on the professor says the uneven pattern is the best reason of the predation theory. It argues that the various location and accessibility of residents for hunting have made that uneven pattern of the population. It examples that residents in the large area have no access to the rocky and shadow parts so that population of the sea otter are more there rather than other parts.
