The reading passage suggests the benefits of salvage logging which is the practice of removing dead trees from burned areas both to a damaged forest and the economy. However, the professor cast doubt each idea of the author.
First and foremost, the article states that if the dead trees not removed from the forest, it will take years to decompose, so, the salvage logging encourages recovering abruptly. On the other hand, the lecturer rejected this point by saying that if the people remove the trees of damaged areas, it can not create a suitable condition to grow. He also argued that the burned or damaged trees include an oil and nutrient which affect the growth of a latter tree.
Secondly, the passage indicates the damaged trees are convenient for the bad insects to live such as beetle which will harmful for the forest life. In contrast, the professor argued that the beetle lives in Alaska for about a hundred years but there is no damage caused by a beetle and also the burned trees attract the birds and other species that have a positive impact for the forest to grow.
Finally, the reading claims that many industries depend on the forest and if they use the salvage logging, they could save much money. Also, the salvage logging requires more workers than traditional logging, so, it will create additional work positions for natives. Nonetheless, the lecturer made a counterclaim to this idea by explaining the salvage logging require a helicopter or huge cars to transport which is more expensive than the traditional one. According to him, also the working position is temporary and companies prefer experts rather than natives.
