Both the reading and the lisiening are discussing about the possibility of permanent human persence on the venus. While the text provides some reasons to support the idea that the maintaining the human persence on the Venus is impossible, the professor casts doubt on them and believes it is certainly possible.
First of all, the writer makes the point that the pressure at the venus' surface is greater than earth' surface that it crush enything that people might land on venus' surface. The professor, however, demonstrates another idea that people can bulid a station at about 50 km higher than venus surface. In that latitude the pressure is equal to earth surface pressure. Therefore, people's devices would not be crushed.
In addition, despite the problem mentioned in the reading passage that water and oxigen should be imported from earth to venus, the lucture argues that there are componds such as sulfuric and carbon on the venus, so people can produce water and oxigen through chemical reaction by using the composion which are already exist on the venus. Hence, there in no need for importing water and oxigen from earth.
Lastly, the auther states that there are thich clouds of carbon on the venus' atmosphere that cause reflect 60 percent of sunlight reflect to the space. The speaker calls this idea into a question by saying that these clouds are not thich enough to reflect 60percent of sunlight and the sunlight iradiation can move through them. Moreover, these clouds are lower than human station, so the people who live in the station can benefit from both the direct and reflected sunlight.
