The passage states that there is a decline in number of frogs worldwide, nowadays and provides three possible solutions to prevent the decline. However, the lecturer refutes them and supports her reasons by explain each of the point.
First, the reading passage asserts that frogs are being harmed by pesticides that farmers apply to their field. Therefore, by prohibiting the farmers from using the chemicals, the problem will be solved. Conversely, the professor explains that the solution is not economically practical and fair to the farmers because they need to be competitive in the market and they rely on pesticides. If they do not use pesticides, they lose crops and yields will be damaged. Therefore, this solution includes sever disadvantages for farmer.
Second, the author states that fungus cause infection in frogs. Treating the infections in large scale will save the frogs population. While, the speaker discusses that since the treatment needs to be done individually, it will be extremely difficult to be done in large scale. Also, for every new generation the treatment process should be repeated again and again which makes it more complicated and expensive.
Third, the passage explains that natural habitats of frogs are threatened by human activity such as excessive water use. Therefore, the water habitats should be protected from water use. However, the professor explains that although it is a good idea, however, the main threatening of the water habitats is global warming. Protecting water habitat from water use of human will unlikely solve the problem.
