The reading discusses the probaility of colonizing astroids and argues that colonizing an astroid can e more beneficial than conolizing a planet or moon. However, the lecturer rebukes this notion and avers that colonizing astroids would be impractical and inefficient. In what follows the reasons each side provide to champion their idea are elaborated.
First of all, the reading states that because of lower gravity on astroids the landing and taking off of an astroids will be easier and also the spaceships what travel there can carry more cargo with themselves becasue of that. Conversely, the lecturer claims that while lower gravity might help landing and taking off processes, it can bring many plights to the travelers. He points out that in lower gravity people suffer from mucsle and bone density deterioration. Therefore, colonizers in low gravity environment can face serious health conditions.
Furthermore, the lecturer agress with the reading that some rare metals exist on the astroids and they can be mined. Yet, he asserts that these mining cannot be profitable. The expenses of establishing a colony on an astroid and then shipping the material back to erah might exceed the cargo value. In addition, there is possibility that an increase in the amount of these valuale metals o erath will lead to a decline in their worth.
Fially, the reading asserts that some astroids can get very close to earth while spinning their orbit and consequently more accessible than other plants. However, the lecturer argues that reaching these astroids might be easier but the orbits of them might be unusual and in their movement they go far beyond than a planet like mars. Hence, going back to earth will be major quandry.
