The line graph illustrates the amount of the atmosphere polluted by three sources in the UK between 1990 and 2005.
In general, the total amount of pollutants in the air witnessed a considerable fall in over of the period. Additionally, industry had the highest amount of air pollutants throughout the whole time frame, while the opposite is true of the amount of air pollutants from households.
Looking at the graph, the total amount of air pollutants decreased significantly from 7 million ton in 1990 to 4 million ton in 1999. After falling to under 4 million ton in 2002, there was a slight drop to just over 3 million ton by the end of the period.
Furthermore, the amount of air pollutants was the highest from industry throughout the period, falling from approximate 5.5 million ton in 1990 to 2 million ton in 2005, with the noticeable decrease between 1993 and 1996. By contrast, the amount of air pollutants was much lower from transport and households. In regard to transport, the amount of air pollutants remained relatively constant at about 1 million ton from 1990 to 2005, whereas the figure from households witnessed a decrease from just under 1 million ton in 1990 to approximate 0.1 million ton at the end of the period.
