The table compares and contrasts the data on the differences in the six metro networks in terms of their age, length and the number of passengers using them annually. It can be clearly seen from the table that the subways in London, Paris and Tokyo are the oldest with longer routes and serve more people each year than that in the other cities (namely Washington DC, Kyoto and Los Angeles).
Generally speaking, London, Paris and Tokyo underground systems have the figures which are the highest in all categories. In detail, the London railway is the oldest system opened in 1863 and is also the longest with 394 kilometres of the route. The second longest system, which is in Paris, is only about half the length of the former and was initiated in 1930. However, in spite of the shorter route, the railway in Tokyo serves 1927 million people per year which is the most used.
On the other hand, the other cities metro networks are the newest and have the least value regarding the length of the route and the total quantities of passengers travelling each year. To specify, the latest system is in Los Angeles opened in 2001, but serve more people per year than Kyoto system opened 20 years before. In terms of the length of the route, the Washington DC underground network covers the longest route among three newer ones with 126 kilometres, compared to only 11 kilometres and 28 kilometres of Tokyo and Los Angeles ones, respectively.
