The pie chart and table describe how land throughout the world was degradation during the 1990s, on the worldwide scale and the latter in three different regions.
Generally, land degradation was due to three main elements and these factors altered proportion in various areas.
On the global scale, over-grazing was the biggest cause of land degradation with 35% and following it was deforestation with 30%, over-cultivation causing slight less with 28%. Other factors caused 7%.
Besides, the table shows that, during the 1990s, the total percentage of land degradation in Europe was 23%, Oceania in the second position with 13% and far more than in North America with 5%. In Oceania, over-grazing was the best reason for land degradation (11,3%), with deforestation accounting for far less (1.3%) and none caused by over-cultivation. In Europe, deforestation was responsible for 9.8% of land degradation, over-cultivation with 7.7% and over-grazing with 5.3%. In North America, over-cultivation was the main reason for land degradation (3.3%), less causing was over-grazing with 1.5% and very little being caused by deforestation with 0,2%.
