The maps below illustrate how Frenton changed from 1990 to 2012.
The maps illustrate the development of a town called Frenton between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, it is clear that the Frenton had fewer trees and more buildings appeared than 32 years ago.
Over the period surveyed, only the school and library in the west of High Street remained unchanged. The playing field with trees in the north of Frenton was replaced with numerous flats, while the hospital was expanded to meet the citizens’ needs. The bank in the west was demolished to make space for a new restaurant; whereas the trees in the southwest were cut down for a technopark construction.
Meanwhile, the café and park area in East High Street was replaced with a hotel and golf course. Houses in East Frenton were reconstructed into blocks of flats and there were also groups of flats in the north of the town. In Southwest Frenton, the theatre and shops were replaced with a new cinema and supermarket respectively.
