The reading and lecture both discuss that we need new regulations for get rid from coal ash. While the reading provides three claims to support the idea that there is no need for the new regulations, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing.
Firstly, the reading avers that we already have regulations to handle the coal ash. Moreover, people use linear to handle the coal ash. So, there is no leak at all. However, the professor questions this notion by saying that the regulations that we already have are not sufficient. In addition, the new linear is used only in the land ponds and this can case significant damage. Furthermore, the coal ash leaks to the ground and it will contaminate the water. As a result, we need new regulations.
In addition, the articles mentions that the new regulations will let people stop using the coal ash for building materials. On the other hand, the professor contradicts this idea by pointing out that it is not necessary to limit people from using the coal ash. For example, people used the mercury materials which were special handling materials for many years. Moreover, these recycled successful for many years. So, people will have no concern or afraid from handling the coal ash.
Finally, the article mentions that the new regulations will encourage the electricity companies to increase the price. As a result, many customers will get upset. Nevertheless, the professor refutes this idea by explaining that even though these companies increased the cost, it will worth the extra cost. In addition, the cost to power the company is fifftey billions dollars. So, we can do math. The company will increase the monthly bill by just one dollar which is not a big deal foe people.
