Dinosaurs were, in fact, endothermic animals.
The reading passage and the lecture have conflicting opinions about whether dinosaurs were or not endothermic animals. The article presumes that, based in many differences between them and the reptiles the dinosaurs were, in fact, endothermic. On the other hand, the listening part affirms that scientists are having problems to believe in the evidences shown in the passage.
First of all, according to the reading there were dinosaur fossils in polar regions, meaning that they could not adapt to the cold weather. However, the lecturer disputes this point. She says that back in the time, the polar areas were warmer than nowadays. It could have been so warm that even non endothermic species would have died. She also says that when the polar areas became extremely cold, the dinosaurs could have hibernate or migrate to another territory.
Secondly, the reading states that dinosaurs leg position, underneath their bodies, is a strong prove for an efficient movement like running. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. She argues that with the legs positioned under their bodies, these animals could achieve a very large size, wich is a great advantage for a dinosaur.
Finally, the reading claims that it was found Haversian canals in dinosaurs fossils, allowing them to have a rapid body growth. On the other hand, the professor believes that in fact they had Haversian canals, yet they also had growth rings in their bones structure as an evidence that this creatures were able to grow in different velocities and even under colder environments they kept growing.
In conclusion, the reading and the lecture have conflicting opinions about whether or not dinosaurs were endothermic animals. The three main parts made in the reading are effectively challenged by the lecturer.
