The chart illustrates, the number of hours spend on the internet by percentage of adolescent children residing in the UK playing games and chatting during a school day.
Overall, it is clear from the graph that, a considerably large % of boys spend their time playing video games, whereas girls were involved in doing internet chatting on per day basis. Additionally, more than 4 hours per day is utilized by both sexes using internet for above-mentioned purposes. After that, 1 to 3 hours per day was maximum utilized time by youngsters in doing both gaming and chatting. When we observe the total almost equal hours are spent by both sexes on each activity.
On the one hand, less than 1 hour per day is spent on chatting by around 25% of boys and girls. 60% of girls and 50% of boys spend 1 to 3 hours per day talking through web space. Furthermore, about 69% of females and around 55% of males spend more than 4 hours chatting with friends and family. When we look at the total column, approximately 61% children used the internet for conversing for more than 4 hours daily. About 57% of children were seen using it for 1 to 3 hours and 25% used it for less than 1hour per day in relation to internet chatting.
On the other hand, about 82% of boys played games on the internet for more than 4 hours daily, whereas 51% of girls enjoyed games for same period. When we see 1 to 3 hours per day slot around 73% of males and 50% girls were noted playing consoles. The percentage that played for less than an hour was 30% boys and 37% girls. It is evident that boys played internet- based video games more than girls who spend their time on chat. The total also showed 32% and 62 % of children (both boys and girls combined) playing for less than 1 hour and 1 to 3 hour respectively. 69% spend more than 4 hours per day in doing these fun activities.
