The graph below illustrates the change of carbon dioxide emissions per person in 4 countries namely united kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal from 1967 to 2007. It can be clearly seen from the graph that there were similar upward trends in the Portugal and italy while united kingdom and Sweden had similar downward trends during this period of time.
According to the graph, the average carbon dioxide emissions per resident in UK stood at approximately 11 tonnes in 1967, far more than Sweden ( just over 8 metric tonnes) and this figure declined slightly to about 9 metric tonnes in 2007. In addition, the number of carbon dioxide per person in Sweden hit the peak of 10 metric tonnes in 1977 before dropping significantly to under 6 million tonnes in 2007.
By contrast, between 1967 and 2007 saw an dramatical rise in the average carbon dioxide in both italy and Portugal. There was a sharp increase in the carbon dioxide number per resident in italy from 4 metric tonnes to just below of 8 metric tonnes and the figure of italy was almost twice as many as the figure of Portugal during 40 years.
