Holistic education is incomplete without inducting sports and physical education. Contrary to this, a few people opine of not having competitive sports including both team sports and solitary as a full-time subject in education institutes. In my opinion, I agree to the statement as almost all institutes have inducted sports in their curriculum, but absence of facilities and interest defeats the purpose.
To embark on, professional sporting requires a cutting-edge infrastructure which comes at a hefty cost. Set aside schools, even developed countries do not own them. For instance, Oman is hosting the next soccer world cup<span class="hiddenGrammarError" pre="cup "></span>, and it had started constructing stadiums only after it won the hosting-bid. Because of its capital-intensive nature, sports curriculum at schools has been reduced to mere playing time for the participants. Therefore, many aspiring sportsmen resort to a solitaire sports academy in their area which often gets overcrowded as it inducts more than its capacity.
Secondly, most nations are aligned to a particular game that other sports are not followed. For example, almost all Latin-American nations are crazy about football that it becomes difficult for anyone to develop interest for other games. Additionally, the availability of quality mentors for these off-beat sports are rare and are often expensive. While students are fond of playing the famous sports of their nations, only a few are left to pursue other games which is often symbolic and participating. Therefore, it becomes tough to have all events at level playing field.
In conclusion, competitive sports both as a team and personal participation requires professionalism. However, educational institutes often have them as notional event. Therefore, adherence to strong professionalism, good coaching and infrastructure is required to excel in competitive events.
