The given bar chart demonstrates the proportion of employment in 6 countries in the world, divided by genders over the 10-year period.
As is observes, both men and women in 6 countries followed a steep upward trend in terms of employment rates between 1995 and 2005. In addition, it can be clearly seen that the percentage of employed males was always higher than women in all countries and the overall employment conditions in Iceland and Switzerland was comparatively better than the other four countries.
In details, over a half population of Switzerland was employed with nearly the same figures between women and men. In 1995, the percentage of male workers in Switzerland experience a moderate increase by almost 10 percentage points from around 65% in 1995 to approximately 75% in 2005. Almost 70% of women in Switzerland were employed whereas there was just over 50% in 1995. The employment rates of males in Iceland is the highest among six countries in 2005 with over 80%, while the proportion of females who were employed was comparatively low with only about 40%.
Moreover, the employment rates of male in Australia in 2005, New Zealand, UK and the USA were nearly similar with around 70% while this figure was less than 60% in 2005. On the contrary, there was a great disparity between female and male employment rates in Australia and New Zealand, making up just over 20% of their female’s population. After a decade, the female employment percentage of Australia and New Zealand doubled to nearly 40% as opposed to over 60% of Uk and the USA.
