The line graph compares the average output of CO2 per person in four different countries namely the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal from 1967 to 2007. The unit is measured in metric tones. Overall, it is immediately apparent that over the years , the United Kingdom and sweden had a significant drop in the emission of carbon dioxide while Italy and Portugal had increased emissions.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, in 1967, the emissions of CO2 was 11 metric tones which steadily decreased to 8.5 metric tones in 2007 but still remained higher than the other countries. Sweden stood second and had 8.5 metric tonnes emissions in 1967 which inclined dramatically reaching a peak of 10.2 metric tonnes in 1977. After that there was a sharp fall and continued to be so reaching 5.5 metric tonnes which coincided with Portugal on the same year.
In contrast to the previous two countries, Italy and Portugal had 4.1 and 1.5 metric tonnes emissions of CO2 which subsequently rose to 7.5 and 5.5 metric tonnes respectively with small fluctuations. Italy, however, overtook Sweden in the year 1987.
