The lecturer disputes the author's suggested theory that an abrupt decline in sea water level caused a massive extinction in the Triassic period. She provides several concrete reasons to cast doubt about these reasons.
First, according to the author animals were killed because of a significant decline in sea water level. However, the lecturer finds this idea debatable.. she asserts that indeed this might have happened if the the decline was abrupt. However, because the decline was only gradual, it is possible that these animals may have adapted to the change in water level
Second, the lecturer contradicts the fallacy of the passage that since volcano release sulfur dioxide into the air, it is possible that this have caused a significant decline in temperature. The lecturer points out that theoretically speaking a decline a temperature may cause extinction to happen if it was sudden. However because the rain clears out these traces of metals, it did not last for a long period of time.
Finally, the lecturer argues that no crater was discovered to prove the theory asteroid collision. The author argues that a debris which block the sun light caused this massive extinction. However, the lecturer also disputes this point. She argues that the only crater discovered was 12 million years before the Triassic period. Thus, it is highly unlikely that an asteroid collision may have caused this event
