The diagram below shows the water cycle, which is the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth.
The picture illustrates how the rainwater is formed and its movement throughout the Earth and in the air.
Overall, the process includes three main stages which begin with the evaporation of seawater, and the returning of water to the ocean is the last step.
The first stage called evaporation, in the effect of heat from sunlight, 80% of the water from the ocean is vaporized to create the condensing water in the air. Next, in the cloud formation step, the condensed water vapor converts to the cloud. After that, the formed cloud pour the rainwater, which is measured by precipitation, to mountains, lakes, and forests.
Finally, water from the surface of the Earth goes down to generate the groundwater just above the impervious layer. The runoff of water starts from the surface through groundwater and finish by going back to the ocean. Inside this flow, the amount of seawater return to the imperious layer called saltwater intrusion.
