Overall, the level of Sulphur dioxide was overwhelmingly tripled as compared to smoke in the environment in the middle of the period while the figure was dramatically reduced at the beginning level at the end of the period.
In 1600, the level of Sulphur dioxide and smoke was nominal in the London while there was a significant hike in the level of Sulphur dioxide accounted up to 800 micrograms in comparison with only 230 micrograms of smoke in the year 1725. After a slight decrement of 50 micrograms, the figure for Sulphur dioxide peaked at 850 micrograms in 1850 and a similar trend was also observed in case of smoke about a peak of 450 micrograms in 1875.
However, the level for both was greatly started to plunge from 1875 which further fluctuated between 200 to 400 micrograms up to 1920. Ultimately, the pollution level was appreciably diminished near to zero by the London authorities in 2000.
