You have a penfriend living in another country and he/she is curious to know about the major news items in your country .
Briefly describe ONE news story that has been on TV,on the radio, or in the newspapers in your country , and explain why people are interested in it.
Dear John,
I hope this letter finds you in radiant health and to the best of the spirits. I am very upset to share with you one tragic news in our country which you might have also heard. There is a media coverage on this news around the world because it has caused a really terrible destruction.
There is a flood in Assam region of my country, India. Many people have lost their lives due to this. Unexpected heavy rainfall, broken nanda dam and overflow of river Ganga are considered as root cause of this natural disaster. Although, the army had done remarkable job by moving people to nearest safe place thus saving lives of many innocents. Many had lost their family members and many others had lost their house and hard-earned wealth and are living in shelter homes. Indian Government had announced a compensation of Rs five lakhs to each family but the loss of loved one is immeasurable.
Strangely, the news spread like fire in the country due to social media and watsapp group. People are really interested in this news to know about more facts, help the poor victims and they have learnt a lesson to be prepared for such disasters in their regions. I know that you are an active member of Unicef NGO, I want you to share this news with other members of the group and provide needful help to the victims of natural calamity. You can donate directly to the Indian government website, its web address is www.helpfloodvictim.indiagov.com.
Waiting for a positive revert from you soon regarding the financial help.
warm regards
Harry.
