The main idea of both the passage and the lecture is about “let it burn policy”. With this mind, the passage believes that it is not a good procedure to quench the fire in jungles and provides three disadvantages. The lecturer, on the other hand, categorically refutes all three disadvantages mentioned in the passage, citing that all advantages are uncertain.
First, both the text and the talk discuss declined vegetation diversity after the fire. In this line of thought, the author claims that fire and high temperature of it cause to annihilate big and small trees. Conversely, the lecturer points out that it is unlikely if fire destroys old and bulk trees and makes the opportunity for growing new trees. she adds juvenile trees need space and fire removes old and big trees, so can provide this space for new species of trees and vegetation.
Second, both the passage and the lecture put forth the idea of fire can kill big and small animals. In this vein, the author mentions that big animals might be flee from flame but small animals cannot survive from flames, also fire can abolish their habitat and foods. However, the lecturer refutes the idea, believing that fire can increase animal species akin to vegetation. Accordingly, the more new vegetation, the more new habitats, and foods, so small animals like rabbits can live this area and their predators are evolved by these small animals.
Third, both the reading and listening material discuss the idea tourist economical. While the author maintains that keeping the fire can harm tourist population, the lecturer opposes to this notion. she asserts that making fire in jungles depends on several factors such as shortage rainfall, drastic dryness and etc. so all of this factor cannot occur in each year. Moreover, fire occurred in one year and it is a rare phenomenon, so it is cannot decline tourist population and harm to economy that depend on tourists.
