The reading and the lecture discuss the style of living and eating a group of marine animals that lived about 450 million years ago, and archaeologists find their fossils. Although the passage claims that some theories about how the agnostids would live, the speaker refutes these ideas through several reasons which I will describe in this report.
First and foremost, the passage points out that the agnostids may have lived as free-swimming predator. The lecturer, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that a free-swimming predator has big and well-developed eyes to see their prays. However, the agnostids had tiny and poor develop eyes, and some of them were blind. Hence, they need another special sensor or organs that help them to find their prey. But, their fossils did not have this sensor or organs. As a result, they may have not been a free-swimming predator.
Furthermore, unlike the passage which states that the agnostids could be living on the seafloor. Conversely, the professor argues that seafloor dwellers cannot move fast or move far distance. Also, they move very slowly and we can find them in a small era. However, we find the agnostids fossils in multiple eras; therefore, they could move fast and went to another place. So, they could not have dwelled on the seafloor.
Finally, although the reading passage says that the agnostids may have been parasites, the speaker disagrees by mentioning that the parasites have not a large population and they stay in a small size. Because if they have a large population, they may kill all hosts. Conversely, the fossil records show that the agnostids had a large population, and we find many species of them. Indeed, they may not have parasites.
