Overall, it can be seen that there was a varied increase in the population of the US citizens. It is also clear that there was a steady rise in the number of people in the America aged 75 – 84 and over 85 years old.
In detail, the population of people in the USA grew gradually from 1900 to 1960 where the data was noted from 2.9 % to 6.1 %. Within the next ten years, this figure remained the same before it marginally rose up to 7.3 %. From 1990 to 2000, the data tailed off to 6.5 % which is more than twice that of its percentage at the start of period.
Concurrently, those who were 75 – 84 years old recorded a steady increment in the overall population within a century from 1 % reaching a high of 4.4 %. Similarly, those who were 85 years old and up rose steadily from 0.2 % to 1.5 % in 2005. By comparison, this is 0.5 % more than the initial record for 75 – 84 years old in 1900.
