The pie chart illustrate the main cause of worldwide land degradation during the 1990s as a percentage which resulted in unproductivity of the land, while the table highlight three regions which were affected by degradation percentagewise.
Three main causes of land degradation shown on both chart and table are overgrazing, deforestation and overcultivation. The most popular cause of degradation worldwide was due to overgrazing which affected 35percent of total land. Deforestation was the second as it affected 30percent with a differential of 5percent from overgrazing. Overcultivation was two percent less from deforestation. Other factors not mentioned contributed 7percent of degradation.
The table shows three regions which are North America, Europe, Oceania.These three regions were affected by overgrazing, overcultivation and deforestation. Deforestation was less significant in North America as it affected Europe significantly at 9.8percent. No land was affected in Oceania by overcultivation, hence 7,7percent was experienced in Europe. Morever, overgrazing was the most cause of degradation in Oceania as it was 11.3percent, 5.5percent in Europe and 1.5percent in North America.Additionally, North America was least affected by degradation which was 5percent, whilst Europe was 23percent highly affected, furthermore Oceania's total degraded land was 10percent less of Europe.
To sumup, the major cause of land degradation worldwide and in the three mentioned regions was overgrazing, followed by deforestation and lastly overcultivation as shown on both pie chart and table
