Offering 4-day workween
Both the reading and lecture are about offering 4-day workweek for employees. Whereas, the author of the reading states that in today's world, many individuals like to have a 4-day workweek job. The lecturer says that suggesting a 4-day workweek duty is not effective for workers. He provides three reasons to support his points.
First of all, according to the reading, an obligatory policy is requesting factories to suggest the option of working 4-day workweek jobs for employees who can arrange their time to work partly or 4 days in week. Nevertheless, the professor disputes this point and says that employing 4-day workweek worker will cost the companies an arm and a leg. He points out that having more employees need more space, more offices and computers. On the other hand, he believes that hiring more employees will diminish the economy of the company.
Secondly, the author claims that companies’ profits will increase if they hire more employees; however, the hired employees would feel relaxed. Furthermore, the lecturer refutes the points mentioned by author. He asserts that employing more workers would put an end on the company's economy. He says that after hiring 4-day workweek employees, the factories’ expectations would increase and they would ask workers to work 5 hours instead of 4 hours in a week. Anyway, he says that it will draw off the desires of the workers and causes they leave their jobs.
Finally, the author claims that 4-day workweek option will help employees to spend their time not only on their office works, but also they can facilitate their personal activities. Moreover, the lecturer rejects this point and states that presence of workers will amplify their interests for work. However, he believes that 4-day workweek will diminish the ability of workers because they are not completely engaged with their job. Also, the lecturer says that companies hire more employees in any major they need; therefore, the hired employees will lose their jobs as soon as the factories hire new staffs.
