The reading presents some theory regarding the purpose of the carved stone balls with the same size, found in many locations in Scotland. The professor, however, challenges the claims and refutes all of them.
First, the author states that they were made to be used as weapons in hunting or fighting. The lecturer, in contrast, asserts that If they were used in fighting or hunting, they would have had signs of cracks, but, all of them are well preserved. they haven't been damaged in wars.
Furthermore, the writer claims that they were as a part of wieghing system for measuring. On the other hand, the speaker says that although they are of the same size, they have made up of different kinds of stone and depend on the which material they are consist of, they have different wieghts. So they couldn't have been used as wieghing measurement.
Finally, the author argues that they had social purposes. The professor, nevertheless, points out that it is implausible based two reason. First, some of them have complex patterns and others are simple. Second, Scotish bury their people with their valuable possesions, whereas none of these stons haven't been found in graves or tames.
