The graph shows the consumption of fats between 1971 and 1997
The diagram provides information about three types of fat consumed in more than a quarter decade (from 1971 to 1997).
Overall, there was a downward trend in the number of two-type of fat (butter and margarine), while the figure for low and reduced-fat jams increase considerably.
Commencing at approximately 150 grams weekly per person in the initial year, the figure for butter then observed a minimal decrease in 1976. Following this, the number plunged considerably in the next two-decade, finishing the period at roughly 50 grams. Margarine, however, stood as the second-highest number (just below 100 grams) in 1971, dropping to about 70 grams in the next five-year, before surpassed that of butter in the 1980s at approximately 100 grams. After that, the number of weekly margarine consumption dip slowly, ending as the lowest figure in 1997.
The consumption of low and reduced-fat spreads begun in the 1980s of about 10 grams and it accounted 5 times higher in the next 7 years and ending the period as the figure.
