Comics medium. Summarize the main points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific points made in the reading passage.
The reading and the lecture are both about the same topic, which is “the comic medium”. The author of the reading believes that comics strips are a truly american art form. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He thinks that comic is not “a uniquely american’s form of art”, is an art that belongs to the whole world.
First of all, the author points out that Hogans’ Alley was the first comic in the world. The problem with this idea, according to the lecture, is that the mentioned comics strip is from 1890, and the comic format was already famous in Europe by 1790. Furthermore, he argues that the author of Hogan’s Alley was an inmigrant, and so the characters were.
Secondly, the author refers to Action Comics and the wellknown superhero named Superman, as an example of how truly american are the comics. The lecturer rebuts this argument mentioning that the artist behind of Superman is from Canada. He elaborates on this by mentioning that Tin Tin was extreamely famous, sixteen years after than Superman appears on scene.
Finally, the author states that, Manga -Comic form invented in Japan-; and european comics, for instance, Asterix, has their own influences form the traditional arts practices in the territories that watch them born.
