You are applying for a job and need a letter of reference.
Write a letter to a former teacher. In your letter:
Give details of the job
Explain why it is important to you
Suggest what information your teacher could put in the reference.
Dear sir,
my name is Bamidele Ala, your former student in the department of electrical and electronics engineering in the University of Portarcourt.
I am currently interested in applying for a senior manager role advertised by The shell Petroleum Nigeria and would request your kind assistance to forward a letter of recommendation to the company in support of my application, as one of my referees from the academia.
The job description includes managing a team of about 8 personnel directly. The team I would be heading is expected to be responsible for the real-time monitoring and reporting on the communication links of the company around the world. As you may be aware, the head office of shell in London and the corporate headquarters of the Nigerian affiliate is in Portharcourt. The corporate headquarters maintains communication with about 8 locations, 3 offshore rigs and 5 operational office spread across the nation's geo-political zones.
having worked in the middle management cadre of local companies for about 2 decades, I am convinced that this job, if employed by shell will give a boost to my career. The financial gains will also make it possible for me to cater fairly adequately for my ageing parents an those that have over the years made meaningful contributions to my life. I consider the opportunity a lifeline.
I would greatly appreciate if your letter could state explicitly for how long you have known me, my academic capabilities and my leadership abilities as well as the quality of being able to work with a multiracial team to deliver successfully on set goals.
Thanking you in anticipation of your kind gesture.
Yours sincerely,
Bamidele
