The bar chart shows the amount spent on digital games in the USA and China from 2010 to 2017 and the pie chart shows global spending on these games in 2017.

The bar chart compares how much money people in the USA and China spent on digital gaming between 2010-2017, while pie chart reflects the global totals spent on mobile, console and PC games.

Overall, it is clear that gaming became a more lucrative industry over the period, with massive growth in China in particular. Worldwide, mobiles accounted for the largest market share in 2017.

According to the first chart, in 2010, Chinese people spent around 8 billion dollars on games, which was approximately half the figure of the USA. Although spending increased steadily in America over the next 7 years, the rise was much more marked in China until by 2016, gamers there were spending slightly more than their US counterparts. By 2017, this figure had more than tripled to $28 billion, surpassing the $25 billion spent in the USA.

Globally, in 2017, the two countries accounted for almost half of the gaming market revenue. In that year, people around the world spent over 110 billion dollars on this pastime, with 42% ($46.1 billion) going on mobile games, 31% on consoles and the rest on PC versions.
