The reading is about the painting of Rembrandt and the doubt about some paint that said belongs to him. The reading discussions about painting that show a woman and with three reasons support the idea that the painter of it is Rembrandt, but the lecture rejects all of them with some evidence.
Firstly, the reading talks about that in the painting, there is no good accuracy about details, and there is some inconsistency between the face and fur collar of women. The lecture refused this by explaining recently pigment analysis does on this painting. Scholars realized that the color of fur cloth there was not on the original paint, and after thousands of years, this paint had added on this part, maybe because it seemed as a formal portray and sold it better.
Secondly, the text point to this fact that Rembrandt was a skillful person in shadow and light, but in this painting, there is a big error about this issue. The professor says this is not true because the color added to the painting creates this defect. Actually, in the original picture, the face of the woman illuminates with the light reflected from his cloth; hence, the shadow and light had been very realistic on it. This is the manner that is expected from Rembrandt.
And finally, the reading discussed the form of the frame that the artist used in this painting. This frame made from several pieces of wood, but actually, this painter not used this kind of framework for painting. The lecture disproves it, and the professor said that these pieces of wood added to the top of the panel after years, so that showed the painting larger and more valuable. Also, the sort of tree used in this panel is the same as the tree used on other paintings of him.
