The following is taken from a Memo from the advertising director of Super Screen Movie Production company.
According to a recent report from our marketing director , during the past year fewer people attended Super screen produced movies than in any other year. And yet the percentage of positive reviews by movie reviewers about specific Super Screen movies has actually increased during the past year.
A memo was written by the advertising director of the Super Screen Movie Production Company, whereby he presents a recommendation for increasing advertisement for next year based on an argument that he received a percentage of positive reviews. His arguement is quite rife with holes and cannot be considered cogent unless it answers the following three questions.
First of all, the director talks about positive reviews without specifically talking about a survey. How big was his survey, and what was the spectrum of people that it covered? How scientific was the survey? What type of questions were asked? The answers were never provided so we know exactly, the degree of positiveness that the people responded with. It is imperative, for such a process to undergo a well studied survey, and to have that survey analysed and logged. Having done none of that poses lots of questions!!!
Second, the director states that fewer people than any other year attended Super screen produced movies. A big statement without any further clarifications...There must be a reason for that, changes must have occured that have lured people away from your production in one single year. The director has to question the major problem that might have lured the population away... The quality of his movies; the quality of his space , did he change anything in the setting; in the environment. Moreover, the problem could be an increase in price, that has nothing to with the quality, but with the economy and as such people did not want to pay more for this production.
Thirdly, he states that he wants to allocate a bigger share for advertisement. Before investing in such a process it would wiser to further question why the people are not coming rather than depend on the positive attitudes of the few and to build on that. Therefore, he can proceed with another investigation by doing another survey, whereby asking, what drove people away from Super Screen. The above question will provide the answer to his dilemma and will help him resolve his problem.
Finally for the argument to be cogent and his process to be sound the director has to answer the above three questions and as such undergo the processes described to make his recommendation plausible....
