For worldwide range, it’s clear from the char that over-grazing should bear the main responsibility of land degradation, which takes up 35%. Likewise, we can see that the remaining causes land degradation is largely contributed by deforestation and over-cultivation, respectively 30% and 28%. And the rest of 7% land degradation causes are from other minor factors.
To be specific on certain regions such as North America, Europe and Oceania, the region of Europe experienced the most sever condition of land degradation, where total land degraded by 23%. Furthermore, deforestation is main cause contributing to 9.8$ of it, while over-cultivation and over-grazing took up 7.7% and 5.5% respectively. In contrast with Europe, North America had the least land degraded (5%) during 1990s with 0.2%, 3.3% and 1.5% caused by deforestation, over-cultivation and over-grazing separately. Moreover, there was a considerable land degradation (13%) occurring in Oceania, in which over-grazing caused 11.3% of it and deforestation contributed to the rest.
In a conclusion, over-grazing and deforestation should undertake the main responsibility in causing land degradation during 1990s and there is a need for the society to be aware of the serious harm of them.
