The below graph concludes the consumption trends among different kinds of meat in a European country during 1979 to 2004. As the graph indicates, the overall trends of beef, lamb and fish experienced a sharp drop from 1979 to 2004, while we saw an upward movement of chicken consumption.
To be more specific, in the beginning, there was a dramatic decrease in the consumption of beef from more than 200 grams to approximately 225 grams until around 1982, and it was followed by even stronger rise which reached its peak of almost 245 grams for the whole period. After then, the consumption kept decreasing gradually to 100 with occasional fluctuations until the end of 2004.
Likewise, for the other two kinds of meat, lamb and fish, a gradational drop for both of them occurred in the period, where lamb’s consumption decreased from 150 to nearly 50 and the consumption of fish fell below 50 from about 60 grams. However, we could witness that chicken’s consumption has surged to 250 grams in 2004 with a starting number of 140 grams.
