The bar chart presents the ratio of academic staff across seven majors by gender in a certain university in 2012. Overall, most male professors and lecturers taught in faculties such as engineering, business, or science, while female academic staffs mostly work in majors like education, arts, and medicine.
First of all, there was a significant difference between the amount of male to female professors in the engineering sector. Eight out of ten teachers were male, and female professors only made up 20% of the staff. However, in the education faculty, the number of female educators is roughly three times as much as male educators, showing the domination of women in this area.
In addition to engineering, there were three other sectors where the male academic staff made up a higher portion. In both business and science majors, the number of male professors was twice as much as females, and in the law sector, the ratio was 3:2.
The rest of the majors were dominated by women; however, the difference in ratio between the two genders was not as significant. In the medical faculty, there was roughly a difference of 5% between the ratio, while in the art major the percentage was 10%.
