The diagram demonstrates the generation of electricity in a hydroelectric power station. The entire process of developing electricity from river water in the generator of a hydroelectric power station is illustrated here.
At first, water from the river is stored in a high-level reservoir. A dam which opens during the day time and remains closed at night, maintains the flow of water from the reservoir to the power station. During the day, required flow of water for electricity production is allowed to pass through the dam and when at night the turbines release water while pumping, this water is flowed back towards the dam. The main power station consists of the generator which is connected to the reversible turbines. The turbines operate the generator during the day where electricity is developed and passed to national grid through the powrer lines, while at night the turbines pump water back to the high-level reservoir. Also, there is a low-level reservoir at the oppsite side of the power station where flow of water enters from the turbines at day time and again water exits from there to the turbines at night.
The hydroelectric power station operates actively both in the times of day and night. Mainly, the reversible turbines in the main power station controls and maintains the flow of water between high-level and low-level reservoirs as well as generates electricity through the generator.
