The reading and listening are about the jars found near archaeological site in Laos. The lecturer totally disagree with all theories proposed by author.
The first assumption made by author is that these jar constructed for fermentation of food and drinks. However the lecturer says that stones made jars can be a good replaceable jar instead of these expensive ones even it consume less time for construction and give same result.
Second theory made by author that location of jar near trade routes shows that it may be used for water storage. The professor rebuts his arguments. He says that location of jars near trade routes become pointless if it also close to a river.Having a large source of water why people need to store additional water.
Finally, the author used a famous myth that burying the dead alongside valuable artifacts can be a possibility that jars were used for tombs. The professor disagree with this point and claims that found uncovered jars are not meant to be constructed for burying people as the jars used on burial site must be covered.
To sum up both the author and lecturer have conflicting views about the theories regarding the discovery of jars.
