The graphs below show the percentages of people using public transportation and private cars in different cities in Australia between 2000 and 2010.
The diagrams illustrate how the numbers of vehicles on the road, including both public and private transportation, changed from 2000 to 2010 in some particular Australian cities. Overall, it is clear that there was significant differences in the volume of cars, compared to public transport and Sydney stood on the top of the vehicles volume.
Looking at the information in more detail, in terms of public transportation, Sydney took the lead as regards the highest percentage over the research period, ranging from 20% to one fourth. It is followed by Melbourne which stood at 18% in the beginning of 21st century and then fluctuated in the next following years. Figures for Perth showed a marginal increase before falling to just under 0.15 in 2010. In addition, after Brisbane and Adelaide hit the lowest point at 11% in 2006 and 8% in 2004 respectively, the mentioned figures experienced a margin increase.
In the aspect of private cars, more Sydney citizens than Melbourne chose to transport by cars. The striking point to note is that the percentage of Melbourne grew dramatically to approximate 90% in 2010 but it was slightly less than Sydney during 10-year period. As for the remaining areas, there were some similarities between Brisbane and Adelaide in terms of a rise by 10% from 2002 in the next 8 following years. Furthermore, Perth’s trend climbed dramatically to 82% in 2008. By 2010, it had soared marginally by 2%.
