The graph below shows Japanese average monthly salary (Yen) from 1953 to 1973, and the price of black and white television and color television during the same period.
The diagram illustrates how much money Japanese people earn a month between 1953 and 1973 and compares two TV types’ cost simultaneously. Overall, it is clear that there were significant changes in the Japanese earning per month while the price of color television and black and white television declined over the time.
Looking at the chart in more detail, with regard to monthly salary, the figure experienced a dramatic rise throughout the research period. Starting at just below 50 thousands yen in 1953, the trend of Japanese income increased marginally by one fourth in the 10 following years. It is followed by the noticeable growth from 1963 to 1973 and hit the peak at approximately 200 thousands yen.
As for the TV’s price, the figure depicted a substantial decrease throughout 30 years. A striking point to not is that the price of black and white television stood at 200 thousand yen at the beginning of this period, but it had a tendency to drop sharply by more than one hundred thousands in the following years. In comparison with the aforementioned kind of TV, figure for color TV’s cost followed a different pattern. It is notable that even color TV was invented in 1963, the next five years is the time of its decreasing price by a half thousand and its figure continued to fall down until the end of this period.
