The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.
The above graph illustrates the proportion of goods that carried via ( road, water, rail and pipeline) in UK from 1974 to 2002. The quantities are measured by million tones.
Looking from the overall perspective, road transportation was the most common method and on the other hand less amount of goods transported by pipelines.
In 1974, approximately 5 million dollars tones of goods were transported by using pipeline system and it was steadily increased up to 22 million tones by 2002. Railway transportation system started around 40 million tones although, it witnessed a reverse trend until 1995 and climbed up to 42 million tones eventually by 2002. 40 million tones of goods carried via water in 1974 and the amount was increased gradually and ended up peaking at around 68 million tones by 2002. However, we can comprehend that road system was the easiest method to transport goods. 70 million tones of goods were transported by using road system and the quantity rose up to 98 million tones by 2002.
