The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates the percentage of senior citizen (65 and over) over the period of a century (from 1940 to 2040) in the USA, Sweden and Japan.
Overall, the proportion of the people who aged 65 and over showed significant growth and also predicted to rise, though in different rates, over the century given for all three nations. At the start of the period, Japan had the least proportion of older population, which was drastically changed and predicted to the top of all. Although, Sweden followed the similar trend like The USA for first half of the century, for the rest half showed fluctuations.
With regard to the United States, the group of people age 65 and over was the highest, around 9% at the beginning, steadily rose to 15% in 1980. This figure dipped slightly (about 1%) for next 40 years and finally estimated to reach the lowest of about 23%. Likewise, the percentage of senior citizens was 7% in 1940 for Sweden, soared gradually in the first half of the century and reached around 14% in 1980. Finally, for the later part of the period this number showed significant fluctuations and predicted to be 25%.
On the other hand, Japan had the least percentage of older people at the start of the period (5%). As opposed to the other two countries, the figure remained just below 5% or same for next 60 years, started rising after 2000 and finally forecasted to peak at 27% in 2040.
