Plan to Enlarge the Library
We plan to enlarge the library by 20 000 square feet and the space would be devoted to increased shelf space for printed materials and more desks for students. The university plans to transform the main library into a learning and information center that will fulfill promise to offer the best possible environment for academic success and high achieving students in the 21st century. The work is expected to begin in early February and it will be completed next year.
Both the reading and the lecture discuss whether '' The university should invest money in the library or not''. The reading claims that it is necessary to spend this money in the library because it will bring benefits for students, nevertheless, the listener doesn't agree and claims that there are other priorities that should be solved first.
In the first place, the reading says if the llibrary is fixed, then students will have more spaces to study and will feel comfortable. Notwithstanding, the listener disregards this point and claims that fixing the internet is most important than improving the library because actually students have a hard time accessing to websites, due to the fact that internet connection is very slow, thus they spend a lot of time searching for homeworks.
Second, the reading explains the fact that with the library renovation more harmony will be created because they will adapt the environment for students to feel relax and concentrate better, but the listener doesn't agree with this idea, rather he considers that students don't care about the library's environment, in other words, to spend money on shelfes and chairs is a waste, instead it might be used for other purposes.
Third, the reading claims that the renovation will start and will finish on next year, so it won't take long time. The listener doesn't consider that the renovation is meaninful at this point, he said that just the year before the student's center was improve and new chairs and desk were bring for students, thus he thinks that this resources are still available for students and can still be used.
