2. explain why you didn't go
3. suggest a way to make up for missing the party
Dear Mr. Jones,
I hope you will find this letter in the best of health and happiness. I felt sorry for not coming to your auspicious party because I got a message from my manager that I have to travel out of town for a business trip.
At your special event day, I got a message about my promotion in the firm where I work for the last half a decade. I become a senior partner at Pearson Hardman. I was extremely joyful after hearing this news and wanted to celebrate with you on your special day. However, I had to attend the meeting with the managing partner who lives out of town.
The reason I did not came that night because an agreement needs to be signed in front of the managing partner. He had to leave the country on the next day around evening. Thus, I only had a chance to set up a meeting as early as possible. Certainly, I did meet him in the morning at his home. Besides, our company has the policy to make such promotions in three working days.
I thought this is the right time to turn my life around by expediting and completing in the process of my senior partnership agreement. Due to this, I could not come to your party. I hope you will understand that how important it was for me to grab this opportunity. Therefore, I apologize for canceling your special event at your place. And, I have decided to make by taking you to dinner at a new Japanese restaurant since your love to eat sushi.
I am hoping for a positive response from your end.
Yours faithfully,
Shwatank Bhasin
