The causes of stress in college students
College environment is widely known to be an extremely dynamic but severe one. This brings opportunities for students to spread their swings, however challenges still exist as obstacles that they are obliged to overcome. College students who face these hardships constantly will become more mature and successful in the future life. Nevertheless, it is these pressures that might drive them to the verge of stress and crisis having a bad influence on their existence. The cause of the stressed condition will be discoursed clearly in this essay.
There are several explanations that are worth mentioning about this problem. Financial issue is the first element that contributes to the formation of the stress in college students. It can be said that the time when students step into college or university represents a milestone for their independent life. Their parents hardly afford to pay for all the fees that are required to disburse. They are namely tuition, rental money as well as living expenses. To a freshman, the pressure of lack of money in the first days of college life can become an unsolvable barrier that makes them deeply disappointed and stressed. As a result, to solve the financial difficulties, a number of college students tend to apply for part-time jobs, which just ends up reducing the time needed to study.
In addition, stress also has its origin in students’ anxiety about their outlook jobs. They are always concerned about their jobs in the future and whether they will get a high salary or not. Many fears are shaped by the negative thoughts that lead students to be skeptical of their career choices. They frequently wonder if they will be able to pay for the debt in college period time or just even barely have enough to make a living by their outcome. Believe it or not, stress can become higher when the students realize that occupation chances are gained by those who have outstanding qualities as well as wide deep knowledge bases. In other words, to satisfy desire for success, the college students are forced putting pressure on themselves to be more unique in both studying along with social activities. It is the fierce-competitive job market that causes the popularity of stress in college students in general.
Finally, homesickness is also one of the most common reasons for stress in university students. To conduct training processes effectively, colleges have policy of gathering thousands of students being from everywhere in one country or even overseas. Therefore, that most of them have to leave their hometowns, then go to strange lands to pursue the dreams and ambitions is completely understandable. Being distant from beloved parents poses a tough obstacle for those teenagers to surpass because people occasionally get the troubles in handling loneliness alone. Unless they gain any sharing or sympathy from their relatives, they will risk struggling with stress by themselves. Consequently, when the body get less relaxation, the stress may turn into depression which leads to suicide attempts at a high rate.
In conclusion, the college environment indeed not only plays a crucial role in making people’s dreams come true but also contributes significantly to their future profession and living. However, this environment also brings out the majority of stresses in college students’ life. Without a doubt, these stresses exert adverse impacts on mental and physical health, which diminishes their study and daily life quality. Hence, these conditions should be solved as soon as possible to assure meaningful content university time for all the college students.
