The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development.
The two maps describe how a small town named Islip is planned to change in comparison with its current layout.
According to the plan for its development, this centre’s layout will change dramatically. More amenities will be constructed and the transport system is planned to be upgraded.
Currently, this centre has a main road running form west to east, with two short lanes down to the south, one of which leads to a school and another leads to a park. Between those two lanes, there are two ranges of shops along both sides of the road and residential areas in the south and a countryside area far in the north.
The plan is to totally change its layout into a circle area for pedestrians only, which will be covered by a dual carriageway. Therefore, the countryside and the row of shops in the north will be eradicated, but the row of shops in its southern side will remain intact. The other side of the old road will witness the construction of a bus station, a shopping centre and a car park respectively from west to east. The school will remain unchanged outside the circle but a park is planned to be relocated inside the pedestrian area. Beside some residential areas that are now exist, there will be a new one on the right of the car park and another on the left of the park.
