The table gives information about the amount of money that overseas students are sponsored during a period of ten years from 2003/04 to 2013/14 in the USA.
A majority of funding is from personal and family. While the sponsorship from the current employer showed an increasing increase, the fundings from other sources saw an opposite trend, with its figure decreasing minimally.
In the period of 2003 and 2004, about two of thirds of the funding for foreign students came from themselves and their families, with around 385 thousand students, this figure was far higher than that of US college or university scholarship. Approximately 30 thousand students received sponsorships from other sources, accounting for 5 per cent. By contrast, only a minority of money was funded by Foreign Government or University and Current Employer, at about 2 per cent for each.
Over the next ten years, the number of students funded by current employer rocketed to nearly 50 thousand students, with 390 per cent change, following by a considerable change of Foreign Government or University, with roughly 66 thousand students and 383 per cent change. Similarly, Personal and Family sources and US College or University funding also witnessed a moderate rise, with 49 per cent and 28 per cent respectively. However, the sponsorship from other sources was declined to around 25 thousand students.
