A glance at the graph reveals that the similarities of fertility rates in China and the USA during the period from 1920 to 2000. It is clear that the birth rates of both nations followed the same trend.
Rising from just above 10 percent in 1920 to 15 percent in1935, China's birth rate after fell to 5 percent between 1940 and 1945. The birth rate peaked at 20 percent in 1950, before taking a nosedive to around 9 percent in 1955. It is obvious that China saw a noticeable downfall prior to 1985 then there was a slight climb in the birth rate to just above 3 percent until 1995. The last 5 years, however, dropped to 2 percent in this figure.
It can be plainly viewed that the USA's fertility rate touched the lowest point of less than 5 percent in 1945, after rising and falling erratically. After that, we can see an upward trend to 15 percent in 1950. Subsequently, the birth rate changed intermittently to a low of just 10 percent in 1970. The following 20 years saw a downward tendency in its rate, to somewhere between 9 and 7 percent, followed by a ceaseless decline. After 1990, the rate plunged marginally, before falling to about 7 percent just the same as the percent in 1985.
