The line graph draws a comparison between the birth rates of China and the USA in a span of 20-years from 1920 to 2000
It can be easily identified that both figures surprisingly witness a downward trend throughout the examined period. Although the two trends were similar in terms of a general decline, the birth rates of the USA in most years was higher than that of China.
Over the course of 15 years, the figure for birth rate in America always remained above 10%. However, in the following decade, the proportion of the American birth rate decreased to below 5%. In the 1950s the percentage of the birth rate in USA increased significantly to exactly 15%, which was its highest point during the 80-years period. From 1955 onwards, there had a gradual decrease in the US birth rate, which fell to 7% by the year 2000.
During the same period, the percentage of the Chinese birth rate showed a upward trend despite some instability. It remained stable to 5% from 1940 to 1945 before reaching the highest point of the whole line graph, 20% in 1950. At the end of the survey, the percentage of the birth rate in China plummeted by over 10%, falling to approximately 2% in 2000
