The pie charts compare the production of electricity in units from 5 different sources of fuel in 2 countries in 1980 and 2000
Overall, the total amount of electricity witnessed a dramatic increase from 1980 to 2000 in both Australia and France, However, there were distinct differences in the sources of power supplies and their contributions to the electricity production in each country
In 1980, 50 out of 100 units of electricity was produced from coal in Australia, rising to 130 out of 170 in 2000. Meanwhile, the total energy production in France doubled within 2 years and 75% of which in 2000 was harnessed from nuclear power
Moreover, while natural gas generated an insignificant amount of energy in both countries, the contribution of hydropower and oil followed in the two nations followed opposite trends. The dependence of Australia on Hydropower remained under 25% in both years, its figure in France was, however, minimal. In contrast, oil was the second most important source of fuel in France, its use in Australia declined from 10 units to 2 units in 2000
