Nowadays technology is increasingly being used to monitor what people are saying and doing (for example, through cell phone tracking and security cameras). In many cases, the people being monitored are unaware that this is happening.
Tracking is possibly one of the oldest methods of surveillance. During the rule of kings and lords, spies were appointed secretly, who kept watch and furnished the king with the necessary evidence to act against anyone. They were instrumental in the smoothly running a kingdom. In today's era, these gestapos are replaced with technology. With the advent of Artificial intelligence and supercomputers, many companies have designed stealth software programs that can quietly infiltrate into a person's life, gather necessary information without the individual's knowledge. This tremendous progress has severe ramifications, which can be both progressive and regressive. I sincerely believe that the advantages of such systems cannot overcome its disadvantages.
In today's world, mobile phones are an indispensable part of our lives. We use mobiles for every small reason, be it calling a servant to calling our loved ones. So, anyone tracking us by infiltrating our security camera essentially violates our fundamental right to privacy. This statement makes the first argument. Tracking most importantly violates our basic human rights. For example, if a person tracking a woman using the phone camera witnesses her bathing or changing clothes, such an act tantamount to sexual violence and molestation, with the accused facing serious charges under law. Secondly, to track a person by the cellphone GPS is also a violation of freedom of movement, something which is bestowed on the citizens by the constitution. This is a serious breach of the constitutional rights. Thirdly, tracking software programs are often misused by political parties to gain an upper hand over their rivals during an election. For example, during the polls for the State Legislative Assembly, a party member forced his opponents to step down by leaking their private video.
Every piece of technology always comes with a yin and a yang. In the hands of the good, the yin shines brighter while the yang darkens if the technology is falls in the wrong hands. It is up to the user who can either use monitoring to reduce crime or fulfill his vested interest.
